Young Volunteers Working on Community Performing Arts Workshops.
Young people aged 16-25 have been volunteering for this four-day voluntary project, which took place in May/June/July 2008. As a result, three workshops have been held for our younger community members (aged 8-16), in dance, music and drama.
The young volunteers have been fantastically helpful and have brought fresh ideas and a new experience for our members, to MED Theatre.
MUSIC
After three days of training for the young volunteers, on Friday 30th May, a music workshop was held at Moretonhampstead Parish Hall with the support of David Faulkner. Jess and Vicky who led the workshop with David, took the group through a number of exciting experiences with new musical instruments and created a new song with the participants. Thank you Vicky, Jess and David. Also, thanks to Emily who helped them out in the preparation stages.
DANCE
Following on from the music workshop, on Saturday 31st May, was a dance workshop led by Rowena with the support of Rohanna Eade. The group met at Manaton Parish Hall and spent the afternoon exploring new ways of moving and responding physically to music. They worked together to create short pieces of choreography that were a pleasure to watch. Thank you Rowena and Rohanna. Thanks also to Laura and Jade who helped them with preparations for the project.
DRAMA
The volunteer leaders received 3 days of training from Artistic Director Mark Beeson, throughout June. The final drama workshop was held on Saturday 5th July at Moretonhampstead Parish Hall. Miranda and Maddi led the group through several storytelling activities and exercises. There were final performances of the polished improvisations at the end of the session. Thank you to Maddi, Miranda and Mark. Thanks also to Esther and Laura who supported the volunteer group in the planning stages.
This project was made possible by a grant from the V Project at GCAP Media. We look forward to the continuation and development of volunteering at MED Theatre. If you would like to volunteer, please contact us to discuss the possibilities.
