MED Theatre playwriting programmes have been developed over the last decade within primary schools local to the theatre company. Successive generations of young people in the Moretonhampstead area have been fortunate to experience co-writing plays with their peers, supported by professional playwright and Artistic Director Mark Beeson.
The workshops focus on Dartmoor as a theme and use myths and legends of the area as inspiration. The work can be adapted to support different curriculum areas such as history, by setting plays in particular periods or environments. The participants work together to become inspired by hearing stories about their chosen theme, and merge their ideas into one play. Small writing teams support each other to write scenes of the play, and finally the whole group combines their work to make a class play.
Activities can be adapted to the needs of the school or group booking the programme. Some groups take an outing to Dartmoor for inspiration.
These innovative, adaptable programmes provide support for Literacy and other studies.

“…we got to make up our own play, everyone had different ideas but we fitted it into one play. You see your ideas and others everywhere in the play.”
