MED Theatre radio playwriting programmes for secondary schools have been developed over the last decade, following on from highly successful projects in primary schools local to the theatre company. Successive generations of young people in the Moretonhampstead area have been fortunate to experience co-writing plays with their peers, supported by professional playwright and Artistic Director Mark Beeson. Radio playwriting for secondary school age young people was a progression of this work, which makes use of Mark's experience as a writer for radio.
Through a series of 8 workshops, of 1-2 hours, participant's are introduced to the theme of their play, samples of writing, and methods for creating story and dialogue. Working in teams, they develop a story of their own, and work as a whole group to form this into one play. Workshops can take place over and 8 week period, or in one intensive week.
Tailored to suit the needs of the participants:
Ecological themes, local history, and Dartmoor myth often form a background theme for playwriting projects, however, this can be adapted to suit the learning needs of the group and the subject. Goals are made achievable for all.
