Loricum (2006)

When film director Leon comes to make a documentary about a Dartmoor reservoir, he uncovers a divided community and many hidden secrets…

A dramatic debate formed the basis for MED Theatre’s 2006 community play ‘Loricum’, which explored what it means to grow up on Dartmoor from the point of view of the young people who live there. Loricum was written by Heather Holcroft-Pinn, Jamie Holding, Matthew Holding, Daisy Martinez, Jaye Noble, Nicola Oakey, Samantha Truckle, Laura Wilson and Flo Wood, in collaboration with playwright Mark Beeson. Professional support from composer Gillian Webster, choreographer Rosalyn Maynard, costume designer Fiona Avis and artists Olivia Young and Sandy Berridge were combined with the writing to create an intriguing work for the stage.

This play formed the culmination of MED Theatre’s Wild Nights Young Company project, financially supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund Young Roots programme, the Dartmoor Sustainable Development Fund, West Devon Borough Council and Devon County Council.
