LITERACY AND SPEAKING

Playwriting and Performance

Telling stories is what makes us human and we know that the imaginations of young people are the most inquisitive and creative of all.

In this workshop MED Theatre will help students to write and perform their own original piece of drama.

Using a combination of practical and written exercises students will be guided from concept to creation, culminating in a performance that they can be truly proud of.

From Greek Myths to how to handle bullying – MED Theatre’s most requested course is the perfect opportunity for learning while having fun!

“I usually don’t like writing but we wrote a scene for our play that was everybody’s favourite and it felt really good to see it acted out!”

LOCAL HISTORY

DEVON'S WAR GIRLS

Let MED Theatre take you back to 1939, Britain is on the brink of war and the whole country is preparing. Dartmoor is suddenly home to evacuees, soldiers, medics and, of course, the Land Girls.

Meet Molly and Enid, two young women trying to navigate Devon’s wartime events.

Based on true local stories, this two-hander performance and workshop combines storytelling, music and dance to bring Dartmoor’s war history to life.

Schools can request a package deal of simply the stand alone performance (approx. 45 mins) or the package of the performance with the accompanying workshop (additional 30 mins).

“Albert came home and told me all about the play. He said it was amazing! He’s really inspired by it, thank you!”
Parent – Chagford Primary School

local history

marwen on the moor

Imagine what life might have been like 4000 years ago on Dartmoor…

In this workshop MED Theatre will take you back to prehistory, interweaving myth and local history to uncover Marwen, a young woman found in the Whitehorse Hill Bronze Age burial cist.

But who was Marwen?  With help from the MED Team students will uncover her story whilst developing chronological knowledge and understanding of Bronze Age religion and societal formations.

“The use of creative Drama approaches was the perfect way to explore Bronze Age culture.” – Stephen Ellis, Head of Drama –

This beautiful animal is the centrepiece of many Dartmoor stories and has a very special place in our hearts at MED Theatre.

In this workshop, we will guide students through gameplay and storytelling exercises to unlock the magic of the hare.  We can promise they’ll have a hopping time!

“Our pupils now know why the hare as an animal is so precious to our area!”
