The Power of Theatre For Change:

At MED Theatre we understand the role that the arts can play in advocacy and activism and we believe that young people should be empowered to do the same.

Using the techniques of Brazilian theatre practitioner Augusto Boal, the MED Theatre staff will guide students through the exploration of ethical, personal and moral dilemmas with the aim of inciting debate and conversation.

“I couldn’t believe some of the young people who were offering ideas, those who would normally sit quietly and listen were stepping onto the stage and showing us how they felt a situation should be handled..!”

Youth Worker – The Yard Youth Centre

Devising From Stimulus:

At MED Theatre we believe in giving young people the tools to create original drama and performance that stimulates the imagination and ignites the heart.

In this workshop MED Theatre staff will share exercises in how to approach devising using a stimulus, research, physical theatre, writing and improvisation.

Our workshop is tailored to ensure that students develop skills in idea development, collaboration and evaluation.

“It was invaluable for the students to see how a professional company devises work and how stimulus for art can be found anywhere”

The Write Way To Play:

Telling stories is what makes us human and we know that the imaginations of young people are the most inquisitive and creative of all.

In this workshop MED Theatre will help students to translate their ideas into an original piece of drama.

Using a combination of practical and written exercises students will be guided from concept to creation, writing their very own script and then creating a performance that they can be truly proud of.

“More than anything, the students learnt to work as a team, listen to each other’s ideas and take their ideas from page to stage.”

Devon’s War Girls:

Let MED Theatre take you back to 1939; Britain is on the brink of war and the whole country is preparing.

Dartmoor is suddenly home to evacuees, soldiers, medics and, of course, the Land Girls.

Meet Molly and Enid, two young women trying to navigate Devon’s wartime events.

Based on true local stories, this two-hander performance and workshop combines storytelling, music and dance to bring Dartmoor’s war history to life.

Schools can request a package deal of simply the stand alone performance (approx. 45 mins) or the package of the performance with the accompanying workshop (additional 30 mins).

“OUTSTANDING! Pacey, funny and moving… Just made you realise how important it was for people to really party and have fun, because so much of life was dire.”

Audience member – Devon’s War Girls

£250 for the performance, £300 for the performance with workshop

Marwen on the Moor:

Imagine what life might have been like 4000 years ago on Dartmoor…

In this workshop MED Theatre will take you back to prehistory, interweaving myth and local history to uncover Marwin, a young woman found in the Whitehorse Hill Bronze Age burial cist.

But who was Marwin?  With help from the MED Team students will uncover her story whilst developing chronological knowledge and understanding of Bronze Age religion and societal formations.

“A fresh engagement with keen students, also encouraged them to choose GCSE Drama while teaching them about local history”

Teacher – Ivybridge Community College

£75-90 for 1 Hour, £150 for 2 Hours, £225 for a Half Day, £395 for a Full Day, Intensive Week £750
