A session with guest speaker from the US! – open to all be it a mother or not (to be, grand, adoptive, bereaved, step, animal mothers, and friends.)
Join Samantha Matalone Cook for a presentation on women, and specifically mothers, in the Maker movement and a discussion on the continuity and change of Making, and how it can support our personal and communal goals, and take part in our practical workshop on creating your own painted illuminated letters.
“Feminist scholar Jessie Bernard wrote a letter to her unborn child during WWII, in which she says (paraphrased) that the only answer she can see to destruction is creation. Mothers have always been at the forefront of social movements and in a time arguably no less chaotic, communities have formed, and continue to do so, around Making as an act of solidarity and as an act of resistance/activism. More than that, our interest in beauty, in creating things we find deep pleasure in, is not trivial.”
Please contact Abby to let us know you would like to join and to ask any questions!
