We are excited to announce a first-time offer from MED Theatre for members of our Dartmoor community to take part in a collaborative, intergenerational (meaning all generations), play making process over the course of one week (26th – 31st May 2026).
This new offer has developed from a desire to continue our work with integenerational groups, and from the unfortunate truth that funding for our annual community plays has become increasingly difficult to secure.
While we continue to apply to grant-giving bodies for future community plays, this alternative option is a way for us to stay in touch and keep the spirit of MED Theatre’s roots alive.
While MED Theatre’s annual community plays have always been free to participate in, this special opportunity is unfortunately not funded by any additional grants. We therefore are requiring some extra support from both participants and audiences to make it happen. However, we would like for this to not be a barrier and hope that if we have enough paying participants we will be able to offer some free spaces for those who require them.
Some other questions you may have…
Do you need to have experience in acting, or MED Theatre plays? No! We would love to meet some new members of the community as well as be back in the room with past participants.
What if you have other commitments in that week? We will devise a rehearsal schedule based on your availability, including working days/hours and childcare, and at MED Theatre we are experienced in doing all that we can to make it possible for people to engage in our work.
Why are we charging adults less than children? With this activity taking place during the school holidays, we are anticipating that children and young people will have more availability to engage with rehearsals during the day, meaning more staff time, and that some parents might view this as a holiday activity. We are happy to discuss the fees with anybody in greater detail.
Who will the performance be for? The play we produce will be performed for public audiences in Moretonhampstead Parish Hall at the end of the week. It will be a play created with and for the Dartmoor/rural Devon community.
