Agatha Christie shared a deep bond with Dartmoor, famously using its wild, “eerie” terrain as both a creative retreat and a dramatic backdrop for her stories. She finished her very first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, while staying at the Moorland Hotel in Haytor, and later immortalised the landscape in books like The Sittaford Mystery.
In 2026 MED Theatre will once again partner with the IACF to produce a series of writing and performance workshops with children from both Dartmoor and Torbay to celebrate Agatha’s works and her connection to the moor. The workshops will culminate in a performance event in Torbay in December.
School Workshops – in three Torbay schools Day on Dartmoor – to find out about Agatha’s connection with the moor Young Writers and Performance Course – On Dartmoor (see flyer below) Performance Event – to share the work created by all young participants, held in Torbay as part of ‘Christie at Christmas’
