DEVON'S WAR GIRLS

PERFECT FOR 2025 - 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF VE DAY

When war breaks out in 1939, Molly’s plans to go to university are shattered and instead she finds herself signing up as a Land Girl and boarding a train to Devon.

Meanwhile, a farmer’s daughter, Enid, is thrust into new experiences when Dartmoor suddenly becomes home to evacuees, soldiers, medics and, of course, the Land Girls.

This fast-paced, two-hander performance pulls inspiration from true local stories explored through the eyes of two young women and the wartime events that bring them together. Written and performed by MED Theatre’s professional staff, the stories draw from extensive research into local history.

A 45-minute show for the whole family!

“OUTSTANDING! Pacey, funny and moving… Just made you realise how important it was for people to really party and have fun, because so much of life was dire.”

‘Devon’s War Girls’ is perfect for both indoor and outdoor performances, and has been performed in museums, libraries, at WW2 events, and in schools as part of their local history studies.

“Thank you so much, that was excellent – so funny and I loved all of the puppets and characters!”

LOCKED IN THE LIBRARY

EXCELLENT FOR LIBRARIES AND PRIMARY SCHOOLS

Mia got caught up reading one of her favourite books in the corner of the library, but when she realises it has gotten dark outside, it’s too late… she’s locked in!

Join Mia as she meets lots of interesting characters in her attempt to escape the building, and the possibility of being stuck in the world of books forever.

35 minutes running time and suitable for families with children of any age.

‘Locked in the Library’ was created in collaboration with young people from the Newton Abbot area, in partnership with Libraries Unlimited.

TILKA'S TIME

DARTMOOR'S PREHISTORIC PUPPETRY SHOW

The year is 2225, and Sammy is a young girl devastated by the news that the final tree on Dartmoor – a lonely hawthorn – may soon be gone.

But someone has been watching Sammy… Tilka, a prehistoric spirit, takes Sammy on a journey to their own time, nearly 5000 years ago, to show her that the issues facing Dartmoor’s landscape started a long time ago.

Join Sammy and Tilka on this adventure to discover just how Dartmoor has changed over thousands of years, and to remind ourselves that climate change is not all about plastics and fossil fuels.

35 minutes running time and suitable for the entire family.

“Such a beautiful way to remind us that climate change is not a modern day problem.”

“I loved the different perspective and prehistory that was so gently explained”

‘Tilka’s Time’ was originally performed at RAMM, Exeter and is suitable for schools, museums, libraries, and community spaces.
