a history of dartmoor theatre

An exploration into dartmoor's DRAMATIC past

A History of Dartmoor Theatre (1998) was written by Mark Beeson but included excerpts from plays and writings by John Ford, William Browne, John Galsworthy and Eden Phillpotts. Based own Mark Beeson’s research into the history of theatre on Dartmoor, for which he received a Stephen Joseph Award from the Society for Theatre Research in 1996, this play looked westward at Cornish theatrical traditions, and eastward towards London as well as focusing on Dartmoor itself, particularly the period of tin production during medieval and early modern times.  A History of Dartmoor Theatre drew together in an experimental form of dramatic documentation the wealth of theatrical history  that is connected with Dartmoor and its surrounding area.
