The Walk Shadow Play (2015)

A journey told through shadows

The Walk shadow play was adapted from a narrative poem by Dartmoor poet and playwright Mark Beeson. A solitary Dartmoor dweller is whisked away one night by a storm outside. In Wistman’s Woods he meets a stranger who offers to take him on a special journey; a journey that will lead him through the rivers, rocks and ruins of his memories and dreams. And one memory in particular will not leave him alone…

The Walk Shadow Play formed part of MED Theatre’s wider performance project The Walk (funded by Arts Council England), a project inspired by a moorland poem of the same name. The play was devised, created and performed by MED Theatre’s core artistic team, led by Sarah Vigars. Combining live poetry and shadow puppetry, the play was intended for intergenerational audiences (aged 8+), in particular for lovers of poetry, puppetry and Dartmoor’s remarkable terrain. It toured four Dartmoor villages in April/May 2015.
